Grapplers finish third in Jeffersonville Regional

February 3, 2024 - North wrestling crowned three Regional champions and advanced nine wrestlers to next weekend’s Evansville Semi State while finishing third as a team at the IHSAA Jeffersonville Regional on Saturday, February 3. The Bull Dogs finished behind Columbus East (168.5 points) and Franklin Community (140 points) with 130.5 team points. Cohen Long (28-8) won the 132-pound weight class, Justice Thornton (31-1) finished on top of the 138-pound weight class, and Asher Ratliff (35-2) was the 157-pound champion. Also advancing to the Semi State round included Nolan Riley (third at 106 pounds), Josiah Green (fourth at 144 pounds), Luke Spurgeon (third at 150 pounds), Evan Saevre (third at 165 pounds), Keller DeSpain (2nd at 175 pounds), and Jose Ramirez (fourth at 190 pounds). Also competing for the Bull Dogs at Regionals was Alex Lozano at 285 pounds, but he was eliminated with a loss in the first round. The IHSAA Evansville Semi State will be held at the Ford Center in Evansville on Saturday, February 10. The first two rounds will be single-elimination, with all wrestlers who win their first two matches advancing to the State Final the following weekend.
