Softball earns come-from-behind victory in season opener

March 30, 2024 - Columbus North softball, under new head coach TJ Jarvis rallied for an 8-7 victory at East Central on Thursday evening (March 28) to begin Jarvis’ tenure 1-0. The Dogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the second inning, but the Trojans answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning. The Dogs chipped into the deficit with a pair of runs in the top half of the fourth inning, but again East Central answered with one of their own in the bottom of the fourth, maintaining a 7-5 lead. The Dogs took the lead for good in the top half of the fifth inning with three runs and shut out the Trojans the rest of the way. Peyton Morris started in the pitching circle and gave up five hits and six runs (two earned) in one and two-thirds innings before turning the duties over to Bailee Scruggs for the rest of the game. Scruggs finished with four strikeouts while allowing one run and five hits in her five and one-third innings of work. Kelsey Lovelace, Morris, and Lily Retz each had two hits for the Bull Dogs. Morris lead the offense with four RBI. The Bull Dogs will play a varsity-JV double header at home on Saturday, March 30, beginning at 12:00 noon.
