April 21, 2024 - Sometimes things just don’t bounce your way in softball. The Bull Dogs spent much of Saturday afternoon having things not bounce their way at a doubleheader in Center Grove. The Bull Dogs fell to Bedford North Lawrence 17-5 in game one and then 19-1 to highly-ranked Center Grove in the second game. In game one, Kelsey Lovelace had a pair of hits, including a homerun and three RBI to lead North. Avery Sheehan had three hits and Miley McClellan added two of her own at the plate. Bailee Scruggs and Lovelace shared the pitching duties for the Dogs. Scruggs gave up six earned runs on eleven hits, while striking out four. Lovelace allowed nine runs, but none of them earned as the defense was credited with eight errors in the field. She struck out three while allowing seven hits in three innings. The Dogs managed only seven hits in game two, but Scruggs accounted for three of them by herself with a trio of singles. Scruggs handled most of the pitching duties in game two, striking out four but giving up twelve runs on fifteen hits. Lily Retz gave up seven runs and five walks before she was able to record an out. North will look to regroup as they will travel to Bedford for a rematch with the Stars on Tuesday, beginning at 6:00 pm.
