Track and field competes at two events

April 21, 2024 - The Columbus North track and field teams split and competed at two different events on Saturday (April 20). Most of the varsity athletes traveled to the Pike Invitational, while the reserves competed in the Talon Relay at Brown County. At the Pike Invitational, the boys (114.5 points) finished second behind Homestead (121 points) in the nine-team event, while the girls finished fifth with 72 points. Ft. Wayne Carroll won the girls division with 124 points. Top-five finishers for the Bull Dogs included Boys: Matt Burge (5th in the 200m), Derek Arau-Ortiz (2nd in the 400m), Ben Stevens (3rd in the 400m), Jace Works (1st in the 800m), Akot Tong (2nd in the 800m), Logan Vanzant (3rd in the 1600m), Draven Martinez (5th in the 1600m), Evan Bense (1st in the 3200m), Jonny Klaus (2nd in the 3200m), Liam Milne (3rd in the 110m hurdles), Owen Russell (5th in the 300m hurdles), the 4x100m Relay (5th), the 4x400m Relay (1st), the 4x800m Relay (1st), Drew Schiefer (4th in the Shot Put and 3rd in the Discus). Girls: Ava Collier (3rd in the 400m), Carys Glyn-Jones (1st in the 800m), Kyleigh Wolf (2nd in the 3200m), Adira Sluder (5th in the 3200m), Lily Miller (4th in the 100m hurdles), the 4x400m Relay (5th), the 4x800m Relay (2nd), Abbi Schiefer (4th in the Shot Put), Emma Beaver (5th in the Discus). Both the boys and girls teams won the Talon Relay. The boys scored 143 points with Brown County finishing second in the six-team event with 104 points. The girls scored 173 points to cruise past second-place Mitchell (102). Event winners at the Talon Relays for the Bull Dogs included Boys: Adam Reckers (3200m), 4x100m Relay, 4x800m Relay, Sprint Medley Relay, 4x1600m Relay, Distance Medley Relay, Wyatt Clark (Pole Vault) Girls: Sierra Newell (100m, Pole Vault, and Long Jump), Kenzie Pendleton (3200m), Kailie McCain (100m hurdles), 4x100m Relay, 4x200m Relay, 4x400m Relay, 4x800m Relay, Sprint Medley Relay, 4x1600m Relay, Distance Medley Relay.
