North finishes 2-1 in Franklin Central Softball Invitational

April 28, 2024 - Columbus North beat Franklin Community and host Franklin Central, but lost to McCutcheon to finish 2-1 in the Franklin Central Softball Invitational and improve to 7-6 for the season. North won its opening game against Franklin Community 8-5 after breaking a 5-5 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Miley McClellan and Ali Wooten each recorded three hits, and Bailee Scruggs threw all seven innings, giving up eleven hits and striking out six. In game two, the Dogs fell to McCutcheon 13-2 in five innings. The Bull Dogs could only muster five hits, and Scruggs had two of them, including a double. Kelsey Lovelace got the start in the pitcher’s circle for North, giving up seven runs on seven hits in three and two-thirds innings. Scruggs, who had two hits at the plate for Columbus North, got the final out in the fourth inning before handing the ball off to Lily Retz for the fifth. Retz gave up six earned runs before recording an out in the fifth and the ball game was cut short when the deficit exceeded ten runs. Scruggs was back in the circle in game three against Franklin Central and she gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out nine in the 6-4 Bull Dog victory. Four Dogs recorded two hits apiece in the victory, including Lovelace, Scruggs, Summer Williams, and Retz. Retz tallied three RBI for North. The Bull Dogs will make up an away game against Carmel that was rained out earlier this season on Tuesday, April 30. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
