May 1, 2024 - After five innings of varsity baseball at Jeffersonville Tuesday night, it appeared as though the Bull Dogs’ win streak would end at eight games. Jeffersonville was leading 3-0 and while the Dogs had threatened, they just couldn’t string enough hits together to muster much offense. The Dogs then scored a run in the top of the sixth and added four in the top of the seventh to beat the Red Devils 5-3 and improve to 13-1 for the season. While North only tallied eight hits for the game, sophomore catcher Sam Perry recorded three of them, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. He also threw out his sixth baserunner of the season from behind the plate. Senior Connor Hensley, who started the game on the mound, had a pair of hits, improving his team-best batting average to .465 for the season. Zach McLean sent the winning runs across the plate with a double to the left field fence in the top of the seventh inning. North used four pitchers in the victory, with Hensely lasting two innings. He gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits and struck out three. Ryan Rayburn threw the next three innings, giving up one run on two hits. Brock Kinter got the official win by pitching the sixth inning. He allowed one hit and struck out one before handing the ball over to Javier Uscanga to close the seventh inning. Uscanga gave up a hit, but struck out two to earn the save. The Dogs will play their seventh game in eight days when they host East Central (9-7) this evening at the Southside Elementary diamonds. Both JV and varsity games are scheduled to begin at 6:00. Photo: Sam Perry was 3-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in a 5-3 Bull Dog victory at Jeffersonville on Tuesday evening.
