May 2, 2024 - When Columbus North faced Bedford North Lawrence on April 20 at the Center Grove Invitational, the Stars put 17 runs on the board and rolled to a twelve-run victory over the Bull Dogs. Fortunately for North, the rematch was a much more competitive battle. The Dogs scored a run in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Bedford North Lawrence lead to 4-2, but the Stars were able to hold off a Bull Dog rally to win by the same count. Payton Morris returned to the pitching circle for North and threw the first two innings, giving up four earned runs and three walks while striking out three. Bailee Scruggs came on in relief to begin the third inning and pitched four scoreless innings, striking out two and walking three. The Dogs had difficulty generating much offense against a stout Star defense as they recorded only four hits for the contest. Scruggs and Avery Shehan (shown) each had doubles, and the Bull Dogs got singles from Morgan Jarvis and Ali Wooten. Seven runners left on base proved costly for the Bull Dogs, who fell to 7-8 for the season. The Dogs will be back on the road at Terre Haute North on Friday afternoon for an important Conference Indiana matchup. The Dogs are currently 3-0 and in the driver’s seat in Conference Indiana with two conference games yet to play.
