September 17, 2022 - Columbus North lost its second consecutive non-conference game to a highly ranked opponent on Friday night (Sep 16) when they traveled to third-ranked Bishop Chatard and fell 41-27. The Dogs were able to move the ball offensively, and had excellent field position throughout the night due to big return yardage, but Chatard always seemed to have an answer on their offensive side of the ball. The Dogs (2-3) got in an early 14-0 deficit, but two second-quarter touchdowns saw North down only 21-13 at the half. The two teams traded scores early in the third quarter, and the Dogs added a fourth quarter score to keep the game close, but a late touchdown by the Trojans sealed the game for the home team. Statistically, Cooper Horn had another huge night. After breaking the school record for yards receiving in a game just two weeks ago, Horn’s eight catches for 221 yards against Chatard now gives him the two highest game totals in school history. Horn also had two touchdown receptions from Zac Horn, who was 19-for-32 for 311 yards, including four touchdown passes for the game. Tyler Blythe led the Bull Dogs in rushing. Garrett Long led the Bull Dogs with eight tackles, including 1.5 sacks. The JV team (1-3) lost to Chatard Saturday morning 21-0, but the ninth grade team (3-2) won 22-18. The Bull Dogs will host Terre Haute North for Homecoming next Friday, September 23. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm rather than the normal 7:00 due to Terre Haute’s travel time.
