May 11, 2024 - Bull Dog softball has completed a stretch of four games in three days with a doubleheader against North Harrison on Saturday. After securing a share of the Conference Indiana softball title with a 2-0 victory over Bloomington South on Thursday night, Columbus North hosted Shelbyville Friday evening in a game that had been rescheduled from April 4. Payton Morris had a pair of homeruns among her three hits and knocked in an astounding eight runs in a 15-7 victory. Miley McClellan was 5-for-5 at the plate as North pounded out 20 hits as a team. Kelsey Lovelace added three hits for North. Morris also pitched the first 4-⅔ innings, giving up five earned runs (seven overall), while striking out six and walking three. Lovelace finished the last 2-⅓ innings, giving up only one hit and striking out two. The Bull Dogs then won their fourth game in a row as they opened a Saturday morning doubleheader with North Harrison with a 9-6 victory. Bailee Scruggs pitched six innings, giving up just one earned run on two hits, while striking out eight and walking just one as she improved her season record to 8-5. Morris added two more home runs in the victory and McClellan had another double among her two hits. The Dogs trailed 1-0 heading to the bottom half of the fourth inning when they exploded for four runs in the bottom half of the inning, one in the fifth, and four more in the sixth to secure the victory. North Harrison made a late run with five unearned runs in the top half of the seventh inning, but the Dogs were able to hold on for their eleventh victory of the season. Game two of the doubleheader was a pitcher’s and defensive dual in which the two teams combined for just seven hits as North Harrison edged the Bull Dogs 3-2. Morris pitched all seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out ten, but six walks gave North Harrison the base runners they needed to cross the plate three times. Lovelace, Avery Sheehan, and Destinee Allman had North’s three singles, while Morgan Jarvis and Lily Retz each recorded RBI for the Dogs. North (11-10) will travel to Jennings County on Tuesday, May 14. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
