May 19, 2024 - Columbus North has shown that they are not afraid to build a challenging schedule as the Dogs finished their regular season with three top-ten ranked opponents among their final four games. The combined record of these opponents is 85-23. The Dogs dropped their final two regular season games at the Greyhound Invitational to finish the season 17-7. Head Coach Mike Bodart used a number of pitchers in both of Saturday’s games to attempt to set up the rotation that he wants for the upcoming sectional tournament. Connor Hensley got the start in the first game (a 6-2 loss to 25-3 Lawrence North) and threw the first three innings. He allowed no runs on just two hits in his start. Ryan Rayburn gave up two runs on five hits in two innings before handing the ball to Brock Kintner. Kintner allowed two hits and four runs, but just one earned in his one inning of work. Lane Schrader threw the final inning, allowing no runs or hits and walking one. Jayce Emmitt had a pair of hits in the first game and Schrader had an RBI in the loss. Cathedral (14-10) avenged a loss to the Bull Dogs earlier in the season with a 3-2 victory in game two. Hensley had three hits and scored a run and Kintner had a pair of hits and both RBI. Sam Perry had a double to begin a seventh-inning rally and later scored, but it was too little, too late as the Dogs left nine runners on base for the game. Blake Osbourne got the start for North, throwing three innings and allowing one run on three hits. Emmitt threw just part of one inning before an injury forced him to transfer the pitching duties to Schrader for the final three innings. Schrader allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, while walking four. The Bull Dogs will begin postseason play at the Shelbyville Sectional on Wednesday, May 23 when they face Franklin Community (14-10) at 6:00 pm. The Grizzly Cubs won eight of their final ten games of the regular season.
