August 29, 2024 - After building a 2-0 advantage at halftime of the girls varsity soccer match versus cross-town rivals Columbus East, Columbus North (3-1) exploded for four goals in the second half to win the Rivalry Week contest 6-0. Paige Terry started the scoring with a header from a Rachel Merritt corner kick to give the Dogs a 1-0 first-half lead. Avery Baker then took a pass from Rachel Fulp with seven minutes left in the half and found the back of the net to give the Bull Dogs a 2-0 lead at the break. Baker then scored again in the second minute of the second half, followed by Emerson Chambers’ goal with 30 minutes to play off of an assist from Riley Sims. Terry scored again ten minutes later to put the Dogs up 5-0. Allison Kolhouse completed the scoring with another Merritt corner kick header with twelve minutes to play, securing the shutout victory. The Bull Dogs held possession of the ball for nearly 79 percent of the match, and out-shot the Olympians 35-1. The JV team opened the event with a 9-0 victory to improve to 3-1. The Dogs got two goals from Sims and Chambers, and one goal each from Sabrina Portaluppi, Aliyah Young, Araina Jaimes Gil, Kealy Baugher, and Alannah Johnson. The Dogs will host Floyd Central at noon on Saturday. Due to lack of available players for Floyd Central, the JV match will only be one half, but the varsity match will go on as usual.
