October 10, 2022 - Like Roncalli in the Sectional boys soccer semifinals, Franklin Community (13-2-3) got on the scoreboard first with a twelfth-minute goal. Also like the Roncalli match, the fourth-ranked Bull Dogs then did the rest of the scoring to secure their first Sectional title since 2016. The Dogs and Grizzly Cubs went into halftime all square 1-1 after a Nico Gotoh goal in the 28th minute from a Flynn Keele corner kick. Gotoh scored again in the 47th minute off an assist from Aidan Whitley to take the lead. Whitley then added an unassisted insurance goal in the 68th minute to complete the scoring. Oscar Ballinas and Max Grewe split time in goal again for the Bull Dogs, with Ballinas recording three saves, and Grewe added one save. The Bull Dogs outshot the Cubs 16-12 for the match, including a 11-5 advantage in shots-on-goal. The Bull Dogs (16-1-1) will face Center Grove in the Regional semifinal round on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:00 pm at Center Grove.
