September 6, 2024 - A battle between a pair of ranked teams lived up to its billing Thursday night as a second-half goal gave Cathedral a 2-1 victory over sixth-ranked Columbus North in boys soccer. Cathedral got on the board first when a bit of defensive miscommunication led to an “own goal” by North in the 35th minute. Madux Tovey (shown) evened the match 1-1 in the 47th minute with a long shot off of an assist from Parker Gribbings. The Irish secured the victory with a score off of a corner kick with twelve minutes to play in the match. Cathedral held a slight advantage in total shots (14-13), but the Irish were able to accumulate six shots on frame compared to just three by North. JJ Salcedo Calderon kept goal the entire match for North, allowing two goals and recording five saves. Next up for North will be a road trip to North Central on Saturday (September 7), beginning at 12:00 noon.
