October 28, 2022 - Columbus North head coach Logan Haston knew better than to let his team be overconfident against a 1-7 Jeffersonville team in the Sectional Semifinals. He knew that they had the athletes to upset the Bull Dogs if they dared to look past the Red Devils and on to the Sectional Finals. The Red Devils showed glimpses of what concerned Haston on Friday night, but the Bull Dogs showed that they had prepared well all week and had their full focus on the task at hand as they ended Jeffersonville’s season with a 41-14 road victory and a date with Center Grove for the Sectional Championship next week. The Dogs wasted little time getting on the scoreboard with a touchdown pass from Zac Horn to Cooper Horn on the first play from scrimmage, putting North up 7-0. The Red Devils answered with their own first quarter score, but four more scores by the Bull Dogs in the first half put North ahead 35-7 at the half. Jeffersonville rallied a bit in the third quarter to cut the lead to 35-14 and threatened to make it even closer, but a fourth-down stop by the Bull Dogs in the red zone ended the threat. The Dogs tacked on one more score to finish the game, and the Red Devils’ season, with a 41-14 victory. Zac Horn finished 14-for-19 for 158 yards and three touchdowns. Hudson Elwood came in midway through the fourth quarter and went 2-for-2 for 18 yards. Tyler Blythe carried the running load for North, finishing with 102 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns (one rushing and one receiving). Sam Mormino added 21 yards rushing on eight carries. Cooper Horn continued his record-breaking season with seven catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Damon Edwards tallied three receptions for 37 yards. Cornerback Jabari Collins had a defensive touchdown with a 70-yard fumble return, and Savion Miles pounded the ball in from one yard out to score a rushing touchdown. The Bull Dogs (5-5) will host Center Grove (8-2) who earned a berth in next Friday’s Sectional Championship with a 14-10 victory at Franklin Central.
