Eight Bull Dog seniors sign to participate in collegiate athletic programs

November 16, 2022 - Columbus North Athletics hosted its first of three collegiate signing ceremonies planned for the 2022-23 school year on Wednesday, November 16 in the CNHS cafeteria. Each of these eight athletes was introduced by his or her high school coach who read a short biography for the athlete before the athlete posed for photos with friends and family. Those athletes who participated in the ceremony included: Lily Baker signed to run Division 1 track and cross country and study Business at the University of Tennessee. Lily was named All-Conference Indiana four times in cross country and was twice named All-State. She was part of the 2021 State Championship cross country team as well as the 2022 State Runners-up team. She earned All-State honors and was part of the State Runners-up and school record holding 4x800m relay team in track and field, and she currently holds the school record in the 800m. Lily chose Tennessee over offers from Toledo, Belmont, Purdue, and Indiana. Clayton Guthrie signed to run Division 1 track and cross country and study Business at Indiana University. Clayton was the 2022 Conference Indiana and Sectional Individual Champion and was named All-State in cross country as his team finished fourth overall. He was part of the 4x800m relay team who last spring won the State title and broke the school and State Meet record. Clayton also had an offer to run at Butler University before deciding to attend IU. William Russell signed to run Division 1 track and cross country and student Business and Finance at Xavier University. William was a three-time letterwinner and twice named All-Conference in cross country. He was the individual Regional Champion this past season and helped his team to a fourth-place finish at the State meet. On the track, William has lettered three times, was the Sectional Champion and State Finalist in the 3200m as a junior and was a State Finalist in the 4x800m relay as a sophomore. William also had an offer from Belmont. Rylie Boezeman signed to play lacrosse at NAIA Marian University and study Biology with the plan to eventually become a Physician’s Assistant. Rylie was recently named Academic All-State in volleyball, was named Midfielder of the Year and earned the Leadership Award on her lacrosse team, and won the Bull Dog Award representing the student athlete who best personifies the qualities of a Bull Dog athlete. Rylie chose Marian over offers from Tusculum University, Indiana Tech, Notre Dame College, Bethel University, and Georgetown University. Liberty Jones signed to play lacrosse and study Psychology at Division 2 Tusculum University in Greeneville, Tennessee. She was named team MVP the past two seasons as well as serving as Team Captain. She was named Midfielder of the Year and was presented the Fire Award by her lacrosse team. Liberty was also given an offer to play lacrosse at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacies in St. Louis before choosing Tusculum. Josie Lemmons signed to play softball at NAIA IU Southeast and study Graphic Design. Josie helped the Bull Dogs to Sectional and Regional titles in 2021. She was named All-Conference Indiana each of the past two seasons and also earned a spot on the All-State Teams the last two years. Josie has chosen IU Southeast over offers to play softball at Oakland City University and IUPUC. Maddi Rutan signed to play softball and study Criminal Justice at Division 1 Eastern Kentucky University. Maddi’s 15 home runs her sophomore season and 27 for her career are both school records with one season yet to play. She was named All-Conference and All-State each of the past two seasons, earned Team MVP honors both seasons, and was named The Republic Softball Player of the Year each of the past two years. She was nominated for the Indiana Pitcher of the Year award, was named to the MaxPreps Underclass All-American Second team, and led her team to Sectional and Regional championships her sophomore year. Maddi was also named Academic All-State in soccer this fall. She had an additional softball offer from Miami University. Mallory Gilley signed to play soccer at NAIA IUPUC and study Forensic Science. Mallory was named First-team All-District three times, First-Team All-Conference Indiana three times, and named to The Republic All-Area team three times. Twice she was named All-State by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association, and was voted Team Co-MVP following her junior season. IUPUC will field their first women’s soccer team in the fall of 2023. Columbus North will host two additional collegiate signing ceremonies, one on February 1, 2023, and the other on April 12. Both ceremonies will be held in the Columbus North cafeteria.
