Boys soccer drops Conference Indiana match at Southport

October 1, 2024 - Southport beat a short-handed Columbus North team 5-2 on Monday evening at Southport. The Dogs took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half with a Sam Brown goal (assist by Bryan Rodriguez), but the Cardinals answered with a score of their own with just 30 seconds remaining in the first half. The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead just two minutes into the second half, but Luccas Peda evened the match with a goal twelve minutes later. The rest of the match was all Southport as they tacked on three more second half goals, making the final score 5-2. JJ Salcedo Calderon kept goal for the first 61 minutes, recording a pair of saves. Noah Marsh took over the last 19 minutes and had one save. The Cardinals outshot the Bull Dogs 21-5 and had an 8-5 advantage in shots-on-goal. Southport also took the JV match 3-1. The Bull Dogs (8-5-1, 2-2) will close their regular season with a Conference Indiana matchup with Terre Haute South on Saturday, October 5. The 11:00 am (JV) and 1:00 (varsity) matches were rescheduled from Saturday, September 28 due to weather.
