October 11, 2024 - In a preview of the first round of sectional volleyball play next week, Columbus North and Franklin Community squared off Thursday night with the Grizzly Cubs prevailing 3-1. North led much of the first set, but the Grizzly Cubs rallied to take set one 25-20. The Bull Dogs (16-15) lost some momentum in set two and dropped behind two sets to none after a 25-15 Franklin victory. Coach Ortega’s squad then battled back and took a 25-19 decision in set three before struggling to a 25-11 loss in the fourth and final set. Kennedy Horn led the Bull Dogs in kills (12) and blocks (6), and was second to Morgan Osborn (2) with one service ace. Karen Dutro had seven kills and three blocks, while Osborn also led the team with 21 digs. Reese Edwards and Lexi Denny had ten and eight assists, respectively, to lead in that category. The Bull Dogs swept the two early matches, with the JV (17-6) winning 2-0, and the freshmen (9-4) winning 2-1. North will complete their regular season schedule with a trip to Terre Haute South on Saturday. With a victory, the Dogs would finish the Conference Indiana season with a 4-1 record, good enough for runners-up in the conference standings.
