Boys tennis falls in state quarterfinals

October 20, 2024 - Fifth-ranked Columbus North boys tennis fell to fifteenth-ranked South Bend Saint Joseph 3-2 in the state quarterfinals to end their season with a 20-2 record. The Dogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead when the number two doubles team of Michael Crossman and Sashu Sabapathy cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory. North dropped the next two matches, number one doubles (Yoki Murabayashi and Vince Sasse 2-6, 2-6) and three singles (Adrian Perez (6-4, 0-6, 3-6), before evening the match 2-2 with Hank Lin’s 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at one singles. Parth Shah then fell at two singles 6-4, 2-6, 6-7(3), giving Saint Joseph a 3-2 victory. Due to Hank Lin’s undefeated postseason record, he will continue to play in the IHSAA State Individual tournament. Columbus North will lose seven seniors to graduation following this season, including Crossman, Ritvik Narula, Nevin Justin, Lin, Murabayashi, Perez, and Shah.
