December 5, 2024 - Columbus North is proud to welcome Sarah Stair as the new head girls volleyball coach. Jenna Ortega resigned as head coach following the 2024 season to spend more time with her young children. Stair formerly served as the head volleyball coach at Columbus Christian High School from 2017-2020 where she accumulated a 102-28-4 record and earned three conference championships. Her teams finished state runners-up in the ICSAA state tournament three consecutive years as well. Stair received the Jack Cramer Ideals of Athletic Competition Award in 2021. More recently she has focused her attention at The Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis, coaching 16U-18U teams, as well as private lessons locally. She is anxious to take over a program that is coming off of a 16-17 record this fall. “I have a passion for teaching players correct techniques to help them excel in the great sport of volleyball, but I also have a strong desire to see each player grow in character and maturity and to model that for my players. I’m incredibly excited to help each of the players improve in their skills and technique, embrace a growth mindset, and strive for excellence every day,” she explained. Coach Stair, the Vice President of Accounting at Centra Credit Union of Columbus, will spend the off-season assembling a staff and beginning training with her new program. “My coaching style focuses on giving players positive feedback and striving to ensure that the court is an emotionally safe space for everyone. This is the most important factor for me as I assemble a team of great coaches. The second most important aspect is knowledge regarding individual skills training to ensure consistency throughout the program and allow players to continue to improve each season they are a part of Bull Dog volleyball.” Stair has two college-aged daughters, Hannah and Emily, who she considers, “my greatest blessings,” and is originally from Ft. Wayne. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Indianapolis and more recently earned her Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification.
