Bull Dogs complete a successful fall athletic season

December 8, 2024 - Columbus North’s eight fall athletic programs earned three Conference Indiana championships, three runners-up, and two third-place finishes during the fall, 2024 athletic season. All fall athletic programs have hosted postseason awards banquets and award winners are listed below. Boys tennis finished the 2024 season with a 20-2 record, falling to South Bend St. Joseph in the State Quarterfinals. They won Conference Indiana (5-0), claimed their 13th consecutive Sectional title (47th overall), seventh consecutive Regional title (30th overall), and seventh consecutive Semi State title (12th overall). Number one singles player Hank Lin won the IHSAA Boys Tennis Individual State Championship, capping off a perfect 27-0 senior season and a 97-3 high school career. Earning All-Conference honors were Hank Lin, Parth Shah, Yoki Murabayashi, and Michael Crossman. Hank Lin earned First Team All-State recognition, with Parth Shah, Michael Crossman, and Sashu Sabapathy earning Second Team accolades. Team awards: Lin and Parth Shah were named co-MVPs, Lin won the Bull Dog Award, Michael Crossman won the team’s Sportsmanship Award, and Sashu Sabapathy was named the team’s Most Improved Player. The Republic All-Area Team: Hank Lin (3rd consecutive Player of the Year Award), Parth Shah, Teddy Littrell, Yoki Murabayashi, Michael Crossman, Sashu Sabapathy, Vince Sasse. Honorable Mention: Adrian Perez Girls cross country won their sixth consecutive Conference Indiana title, placing eight runners on the All-Conference list (Carys Glyn-Jones, Kyleigh Wolf, Tristan Works, Ainsley Sherlock, Macy Eaton, Emma Lowther, Adira Sluder, and Kodi Smith). Glyn-Jones was the Conference Indiana individual champion. They won their 28th consecutive Sectional title (38th overall) and 34th Regional title (most all-time in Indiana history), before a tenth-place finish at the State Championship. Glyn-Jones was first in the Sectional and Regional meets before a 19th-place finish at the State Championship, earning her All-State honors. Eaton was named Academic All-State, with Katie Frazier, Emma Glyn-Jones, and Wolf named Academic All-State Honorable Mention. Team Awards: Carys Glyn-Jones was named MVP, Kyleigh Wolf earned the Bull Dog Award, Rendy Zhong was named Most Improved, and Macy Eaton was given the Rick Richey Mental Attitude Award. The Republic All-Area Team: Carys Glyn-Jones (2nd consecutive Player of the Year Award), Kyleigh Wolf, Tristan Works, Macy Eaton, Emma Lowther, Adira Sluder, Ainsely Sherlock, Rendy Zhong. Honorable Mention: Kodi Smith, Wendy Zhong Football won the outright Conference Indiana title with a perfect 5-0 conference record as part of an 8-2 season that ended with a Sectional loss to Franklin Central. Fourteen players were named to the All-Conference team with Jackson Haston, Evan Saevre, Jose Ramirez, Luke Russell, Bryce Harriman, Drew Schiefer, Asher Ratliff, Gino Prescott, Garrett Long, and Braylon Thoman being named to the First Team. Anderson Horn, Macario Mendez, Sam Perry, and Jayce Emmitt were named All-Conference Honorable Mention. IFCA Senior All-State - Gino Prescott, Garrett Long, Evan Saevre. IFCA Junior All-State - Drew Schiefer. Team Awards: Freshman Team: MVP - Slater Elwood, Most Improved - Riston Wormer, Mental Attitude Award - Sam Kriesant. JV Team: MVP - Max Wilson, Most Improved - Ashton Schwartz, Mental Attitude Award - Jerry Likens. Varsity Team: Tom Orr Renaissance Award - Reggie Holguin, MVP (Offense) - Gino Prescott, MVP (Defense) - Evan Saevre, Jose Ramirez, MVP (Special Teams) - Luke Friend, Jackson Haston, MVP (Linemen) - Bryce Harriman, #ONE Award - Sam Perry, Jordan Briner, MVP (Team) - Garrett Long, Bull Dog Award - Braylon Thoman, Four-year Letterwinner Award - Bryce Harriman. Jayce Emmit, Bryce Harriman, Jackson Haston, Jack Johnson, Owie Kibler, Sam Mormino, Jose Ramirez, Luke Russell were all named Academic All-State. The Republic All-Area Team: Gino Prescott and Evan Saevre (co- Players of the Year), Asher Ratliff, Braylon Thoman, Jordan Briner, Garrett Long, Drew Schiefer, Bryce Harriman, Nehemiah Scruggs, Dumo Kak, Anthony Portaluppi, Jose Ramirez, Anderson Horn, Jackson Haston, Sam Perry, Macario Mendez, Luke Friend. Honorable Mention: Davonte Degraffenreid, Eli Smith. Girls Soccer finished second in Conference Indiana with a 4-1 record. Their overall record for the season was 13-3-1 and included a stretch of 14 shutouts in 15 matches. They allowed only seven goals in 17 total matches. They were eliminated in the second round of the sectional tournament by Center Grove (who scored six of the seven goals and accounted for two of the three losses for the Dogs’ season). Rachel Merritt, Page Mora, Allison Kolhouse, and Avery Baker were named First-Team All-Conference, with Brooklyn Pendleton and Rachel Fulp each earning Honorable Mention All-Conference. Page Mora earned the ISCA Top Player Award, Allison Kolhouse was named All-District 4, and Rachel Merritt was named All-District 4 Honorable Mention. Team Awards: JV Team: MVP - Rosie Brockhaus, MVP (Offense) - Lily Ryan, MVP (Defense) - Alex Swain, Most Improved - Aliyah Young, Arian Jaimes Gil. Varsity Team: MVP - Allison Kolhouse, Bull Dog Award - Page Mora and Gabby Spurgeon, MVP (Offense) - Avery Baker, Rachel Merritt, MVP (Defense) - Brooklyn Pendleton, Grace Merritt, Most Improved Award - Emerson Chamber, Rachel Fulp, Legacy Award - Lily Owens, Paige Terry The Republic All-Area Team: Allison Kolhouse (Player of the Year), Avery Baker, Rachel Merritt, Page Mora, Rachel Fulp, Brooklyn Pendleton, Paige Terry, Danika Hoehn. Honorable Mention: Hayden Bigler, Grace Merritt, Greta Schuetz, Gabby Spurgeon. Girls Golf finished second in Conference Indiana and finished with an 8-2 dual meet record. Erin Hopkins was the Conference Indiana Meet Medalist, with Lindsey Hartwell also earning All-Conference honors with a fifth-place finish at the Conference Indiana Meet.. Hopkins was also the Medalist at the sectional tournament, in which the team finished third. She also finished in a tie for third-place at the regional meet and lost in a playoff for a berth in the State Finals. Team Awards: MVP - Erin Hopkins, Bull Dog Award - Lindsey Hartwell, Most Improved Award - Harper Andresen, Highest GPA Award - Kara Buntin, Sportsmanship Award - Ana Pavlov. The Republic All-Area Team: Erin Hopkins (Player of the Year), Lindsey Hartwell. Honorable Mention: Kara Buntin. Boys Cross Country finished second in Conference Indiana, won their fourth consecutive sectional title (35th overall), were third at the regional meet, and were fifth at the State Championships. They also finished first at four additional invitational meets during the regular season. Jace Works earned All-State honors for his 15th-place finish at the State Meet. Neal White, Logan Vanzant, Jonny Klaus, Draven Martinez, Justin Reckers, and Graham Pumphrey were all named All-Conference Indiana. Cole Stevens and Neal White earned Academic All-State honors, with Drew Jacobi, Jonny Klaus, Ben Psota, Eli Psota, Jace Works, and Eli Wrightsman earning Academic All-State Honorable Mention. Team Awards: MVP - Neal White, Bull Dog Award - Jace Works, Jonny Klaus, Most Improved Award - Graham Pumphrey. Rick Richey Mental Attitude Award - Denton Sluder. The Republic All-Area Team: Neal White (2nd consecutive Player of the Year Award), Jace Works, Draven Martinez, Denton Sluder, Justin Reckers, Jonny Klaus, Logan Vanzant. Honorable Mention: Evan Bense. Volleyball finished third in Conference Indiana with a 3-2 conference record (16-17 overall). The Bull Dogs beat cross-town rival Columbus East for the first time since 2017. Senior Reese Edwards surpassed the 1000 assist milestone, and junior Morgan Osborn surpassed 1000 career digs during the 2024 season. The team had a stretch of 14 victories in 17 matches in the middle of the season before falling to Franklin Community in the sectional tournament to end their season. Kennedy Horn and Morgan Osborn were each named to the Conference Indiana All-Conference First Team with Karen Dutro named Honorable Mention. Kennedy Horn, Lucy Wilson, and Reese Edwards were named Academic All-State (Gold), with Ally Wettschurack earning Silver honors. Team Awards: JV Team: MVP - Hazel Sasse, Most Improved - Lola Rose, Mental Attitude Award - Sydni Schiefer, Casey Cooley Award - Rori Pollert. Freshman Team: MVP - Ada Davis, Most Improved - Emma Haston, Mental Attitude Award - Maria Victoria, Jolie Crider Award - Emerson Dunlap. Varsity Team: MVP - Morgan Osborn, Bull Dog Award - Karen Dutro, Mental Attitude Award - Ally Wettschurack, Kathy Cox Heart of a Bull Dog Award - Kennedy Horn, Serving Leader - Reese Edwards, Digs Leader - Morgan Osborn, Kills Leader - Kennedy Horn, Blocks Leader - Kennedy Horn, Assists Leader - Reese Edwards. The Republic All-Area Team: Kennedy Horn (Player of the Year), Karen Dutro, Morgan Osborn. Honorable Mention: Reese Edwards. Boys soccer finished third in Conference Indiana with a 3-2 conference record (9-6-1 overall). The Bull Dogs allowed only 15 goals in 16 matches while scoring 31. The Dogs fell to top-ranked Center Grove in the sectional tournament as the Trojans broke a scoreless tie with only a few minutes left in the match. Three players were named to the All-Conference First Team, including Sam Brown, Konnor Gribbins, and Bryan Rodriguez, with Madux Tovey and Leo Iorio earning Honorable Mention. Konnor Gribbins earned the ISCA Top Player Award as well as 2nd Team All-District Honors. Sam Brown was named to the All-District First Team. Earning Academic All-State honors were Ben Stevens, Noah Marsh, Leo Iorio, Konnor Gribbins, Sam Brown, and Freddy Madero. Team Awards: MVP - Sam Brown, Konnor Gribbins, Most Improved Player - Jonah Sipes, David Green Spirit Award - Konnor Gribbins, Bull Dog Award - Angel Espejel.
