December 8, 2024 - Columbus North boys basketball got off to a rough start at Silver Creek Friday night (December 6), and by the time they settled down and started to play better, the deficit was too large to overcome, and they lost their first game of the year 79-62. The Dogs fell behind 27-10 after just one quarter, and lost by the same 17-point margin. Austin Perry had 18 points to lead North, but the Bull Dog defense allowed a pair of 20-point scorers for Silver Creek. The JV lost 67-57, with Brennan Hester topping all North scorers with 17 points. Both squads rallied, however, and posted decisive victories at home against Martinsville on Saturday night. The varsity team did to Martinsville what had been done to them the night before, outscoring the Artesians 25-6 in the first quarter, and never looked back on their way to an 81-48 victory. Caleb Ferguson poured in a team-high 23 points with Austin Perry adding 17 in the victory. The Bull Dogs (3-1) rode 13 made three-point goals, along with suffocating pressure defense, to their victory in four games. The JV team recorded a 63-33 victory in one early game to improve to 2-2, with the freshmen staying a perfect 4-0 on the season with a 42-30 decision in the other sub-varsity matchup. All three teams will host Greenwood on Saturday, December 14, beginning at 6:00 pm. Photo: Caleb Ferguson drives for two of his team-high 23 points against Martinsville at home on Saturday night.
