December 28, 2022 - The Columbus North boys basketball team improved to 8-4 for the season after winning two of three games at the Noblesville Holiday Tournament to claim third place. The Bull Dogs started the tournament on Tuesday (December 27) with a 55-42 victory over Norwell (7-2). Luke Harmon, who hit a trio of three-point goals and was 6-for-6 from the free throw line had 17 points and Cooper Horn (shown) added 14 for North. Wednesday’s second round matched the Bull Dogs with a very good Lawrence Central (7-4) team, who had beaten Chesterton in round one. North got down early, trailing 19-9 after one quarter and 38-19 at the half. The Dogs chipped away at the deficit with a 15-8 third quarter, but ultimately fell 64-42 to earn a berth in the third-place game Wednesday evening. Horn had 18 points in the loss. Crown Point’s (5-6) second-round loss to Noblesville paired Columbus North and Crown Point in the third-place game. The Dogs jumped out to a 26-19 half time lead, but an early third quarter burst by Crown Point drew the two teams even at 37 through three quarters. A late layup by Tyler Blythe gave the Bull Dogs a 50-48 victory and a third place finish. Horn led the Dogs in scoring once again with 20 points. Harmon scored ten points, including a pair of three-point goals for the Dogs. The Bull Dogs will host Terre Haute North on January 6 in a Conference Indiana matchup. North’s freshman team will host Fishers on Wednesday, January 4 before facing the Patriots on Friday.
