February 1, 2025 - Head boys basketball coach Paul Ferguson knew that his team would have to play very well to have a chance against Southport, who had advantages in both size and athleticism. The Dogs gave Coach Ferguson exactly what he asked for, and North rolled to a 75-50 victory, improving to 11-3 and claiming their fourth consecutive victory. Caleb Ferguson poured in 23 points in the victory as North overcame a 17-14 first quarter deficit to take a 31-26 lead at half time. North used a 22-point third quarter to build a 17-point lead after three quarters and roll to victory. The Bull Dogs handled the Cardinals’ size and ball pressure and knocked down timely three-point goals. North’s zone defense limited drives to the basket and forced the Cardinals to rely on long-range jump shots most of the evening. The two teams split the early games with the Cardinals winning a double-overtime thriller in the JV game 53-52 and the freshmen overcoming a first quarter deficit to win 44-25. All three teams will travel to Whiteland Saturday evening (February 1) for a non-conference showdown with the Warriors. JV and 9th grade will tip off at 6:00 with varsity to follow.
