Muthukumaran wins two sectional titles to advance to state

February 9, 2025 - Mridula Muthukumaran won both the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard butterfly at the girls swimming and diving sectional at Columbus North on Saturday, qualifying her for next week’s State Finals. Muthukumaran, a sophomore, was seeded second in the IM and fifth in the butterfly after Thursday’s sectional prelims. She won the 200 yard IM by nearly three seconds and was the only swimmer to break the one-minute mark in the butterfly. North will wait until early next week to hear if any other finishers will get called back to the field of the State Finals due to their sectional performance times. Columbus North finished fourth in the 14-team sectional with 246 points. Bloomington South ran away with the team title, accumulating 503.5 points. East Central finished second with 335, and Bloomington North was third with 295.
