February 22, 2025 - Columbus North boys swim team finished seventh in the 14-team East Central Sectional this afternoon, accumulating 116 team points. Bloomington South was the sectional champion team with 494 points, followed by Bloomington North and Columbus East. While no swimmers qualified to advance to next weekend’s State Finals, two Bull Dog divers, Dagan Kleffman and Gary Streeval, who finished second and fourth, respectively, will advance to Tuesday’s regional meet in Jasper. Columbus North’s top finishers at the sectional meet included 200 yd medley relay (Hudson Clock, Nicolas Bowers, Diego Cotero Tapia, Eli McIntier) - DQ 200 yard freestyle: Cotero Tapia - 5th 1m diving: Kleffman - 2nd, Streeval - 4th 100 yard butterfly: Cotero Tapia - 4th 500 yard freestyle: Eli Varchenko - 13th 200 yard freestyle relay (Cotero Tapia, Clock, McIntier, Bowers) - 7th 100 yard breaststroke: Bowers - 13th, Niewedde - 14th, Oliver Lifferth - 15th 400 yard freestyle relay (Saisri Harshith Devaguptapu, Luis Valerdi, Varchenko, Niewedde) - 9th Photo: Dagan Kleffman, shown here at a meet earlier this season, placed second in the 1m diving event at the East Central Sectional.
