April 2, 2025 - Columbus North baseball got the season started with a 3-2 victory at Hamilton Southeastern on Tuesday night. Freshman Jack Whaley hit a three-run homerun in his first varsity at-bat to give North all the runs they would need to hold off the Royals and begin the season 1-0. Joey Fry got the start on the mound and threw 4-⅔ innings of no-hit baseball. He allowed no runs while striking out seven and walking three. Lefthander Dillon Long came on in middle relief to close out the fifth and pitch the sixth inning. Long allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits before handing the ball over to Jayden Adorno to close the seventh inning. Adorno allowed one hit and struck out one in his inning of relief. The Dogs could only muster four hits for the game, and Whaley had three of them. To go along with his first inning home run, he had a pair of singles. Jayce Emmitt had the fourth hit, a single, for the Bull Dogs. The JV team fell 7-1 in the other game of the evening. The varsity team will travel to Fortville, Indiana on Saturday for a morning doubleheader with Mt. Vernon High School. The first game is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
