April 11, 2025 - Columbus North softball has lost three games this season by a total of four runs. Their streak of coming up on the short end of close games continued Thursday night with a 2-1 loss at Shelbyville. The Dogs (1-3) got on the scoreboard first when Summer Williams (shown) drove in Morgan Jarvis, giving North a 1-0. That lead would stand until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Golden Bears put two runs on the board. Both teams finished with four hits and no defensive errors for the game. Payton Morris threw the first four innings for the Bull Dogs, giving up no runs and no hits while striking out four and walking three. Bailee Scruggs came on in relief in the fifth inning and gave up a pair of runs on two hits. Scruggs walked one and struck out two in two innings of work. Morris and Scruggs each had hits for the Bull Dogs, as did Lilly Retz and Morgan Jarvis. Retz and Morris each had doubles, and Jarvis had a triple for North. The JV team got their first victory of the season with an 8-5 decision in the second game. The Bull Dogs will host Whiteland on Monday evening (April 14), with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 pm.
