February 19, 2023 - Six Columbus North senior basketball players were recognized prior to the start of the varsity game against Franklin Community, and those six seniors helped to propel the Bull Dogs to a 70-58 victory over the Grizzly Cubs in a preview of a potential sectional matchup at the conclusion of the regular season. The Dogs and Cubs were tied at 30 at the end of the first half, and Franklin answered a Bull Dog third quarter surge with a late-game burst of their own, knotting the score at 51 at the end of regulation. A 4-4 tie during the first overtime period sent the teams to a second overtime, a period that was dominated by the home team. The Dogs started the second overtime set with an 8-0 run and cruised to the twelve-point victory, improving their season record to 14-7 with one regular season contest remaining. Cooper Horn continued to climb the all-time program scoring list, adding a game-high 29 points to his career total. He now stands fifth on the all-time list, passing Bull Dog legends Jerry Newsome and Tom Arnholt en route to the victory over the Grizzly Cubs. Fellow senior Damon Edwards added ten points for the Bull Dogs. The JV team improved to 15-3 for the season with a 56-33 victory in the early game. Both teams will conclude the regular season with a road trip to Center Grove on Thursday, February 23 before the varsity will begin sectional play the following week.
