March 5, 2023 - Head coach Paul Ferguson and his boys basketball team celebrated the first sectional championship under his leadership and the program’s first since the 2012-2013 season after a 67-59 victory over Whiteland in the finals of the Columbus North boys basketball sectional tournament. The Bull Dogs led throughout, building a 17-point second half lead, but the Warriors (10-15) would not go down without a fight. They cut the lead to just five on two occasions in the fourth quarter, but clutch free throw shooting down the stretch sealed the victory for the Bull Dogs, who claimed only the second sectional championship in boys basketball since 1996. Cooper Horn led all scorers with 19 points, while teammates Ty Ferguson, Luke Harmon, and Damon Edwards added 14, 13, and 12, respectively. Tyler Blythe accounted for the remaining nine Bull Dog points. The Dogs (17-8) were 13-for-17 from the free throw line (9-of-12 in the fourth quarter) and shot over 50% for the game from the field. The Bull Dogs will have a rematch with Conference Indiana foe Bloomington North in the Regional 8 Championship at Seymour High School on Saturday, March 11, beginning at 7:00 pm. The Cougars beat Columbus North 49-45 on February 17 at Columbus North. Bloomington North (18-5) beat Center Grove 43-41 to advance to the Regional Championship.
