March 12, 2023 - The Columbus North gymnastics team rallied for a 27.6 score in their final rotation to slip into a fourth-place finish and a trip to the awards podium at the IHSAA State Gymnastics Championships at Ball State on Saturday, March 11. The Bull Dogs were in sixth place heading into the Vault, their final event of the evening, but leaped over Ft Wayne Bishop Dwenger and Lake Central into fourth place with a strong rotation. The drama was even more intense as North was the last team competing due to their position in the rotation. All other events were complete as the other competitors watched Reese Euler score 9.5 on the last vault of the competition to put the Dogs on the podium. Teammates Lindsey Mullis (9.2), and Ellie McIntier (8.9) had already posted solid scores on vault to set the stage for Euler’s highest event score of the event, which was good enough for fifth place in the event. Euler finished fourth in the All-Around with a score of 37.5 after posting a second place finish on the Uneven Bars (9.475) and a fourth place on the Balance Beam (9.45) to go along with her fifth place in Vault. Euler’s low score of the meet, a 9.075 on the Floor Exercise, likely prevented her from a second or third place All-Around finish. Valparaiso’s Gabriella Grisafi won the All-Around title with a 38.025, leading her team to a 112.350 score and a State championship. Homestead finished second (111.625), and Crown Point third (109.5) in the competition. The Bull Dogs finished 6-1 in dual meets for the season, won the Conference Indiana meet, and placed second to Bloomington North in both the Sectional and Regional competitions. The Cougars finished seventh at the State Championship. Photo: Columbus North accepts their fourth place medals at the IHSAA State Gymnastics Championships.
