May 1, 2025 - When your defensive errors (six) outnumber your hits (five), and your opponent is ranked in the top ten in the state, you don’t have a recipe for success. The Bull Dogs were on the short end of a 15-3 decision against highly ranked Floyd Central on Wednesday night. Other than Miley McClellan, who was 3-for-3 on the night, the Bull Dogs were unable to find much offensive rhythm against the Highlanders. Morgan Jarvis and Bailee Scruggs tallied the only other hits for the Dogs. Scruggs also got the start in the pitcher’s circle, throwing 6-⅔ innings, allowing 14 hits and 14 runs (nine earned), while walking three and striking out four. Payton Morris finished the final ⅓ inning, allowing a run on two hits. The Dogs gave up a run in the top of the first, but answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first. The Highlanders used fielding and throwing errors by the Bull Dogs to put four more runs on the board in the top of the second before both teams went scoreless over the next three innings. Each team scored two in the sixth, giving the Highlanders a 7-3 lead heading into the final inning. That’s when the wheels fell off for the Bull Dogs. Eight base runners crossed the plate in the top half of the seventh inning for Floyd Central, resulting in a lopsided final tally. The JV game was started but unable to be completed due to lightning in the area. The Bull Dogs will travel to Perry Meridian for a varsity-only game on Thursday night (May 1), beginning at 5:30 pm.
