May 4, 2025 - Columbus North baseball had a rough outing on Friday night with a 13-2 loss to Cathedral, but bounced back Saturday morning to win a key Conference Indiana with Terre Haute North 2-1 in ten innings. In Friday’s game, the Bull Dogs could only muster five hits, two of which came from catcher Sam Perry. The Dogs had a pair of defensive errors and allowed the Irish to score in every inning. Brock Kintner and Dillon Long scored the two runs for North. Franko Ortega got the start on the mound, lasting 2-⅔ innings, allowing seven runs (six earned), while striking out two. Long threw one inning and gave up three runs on four hits along with a pair of walks. Lane Schrader tossed the final 1-⅓ innings, allowing three runs (one earned) while walking four. The JV (White) team lost to Cathedral 7-0 to fall to 0-4 for the season. The Dogs had a quick turnaround as they hosted 9-4 Terre Haute North Saturday morning. The game was moved to Columbus East High School due to wet field conditions at North’s home diamond. North tallied only two hits (one by Kintner and one by Long), but allowed the Patriots only four hits of their own in a pitcher’s duel. The Dogs utilized four walks, four hit-by-pitches, and two Patriot errors to escape with a 2-1 ten inning victory. Jayce Emmitt threw the first six innings, allowing just one unearned run and two hits while walking four and striking out two. Javier Uscanga threw one inning and allowed just one hit. Kintner came on in relief for the final three innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out three. In the bottom of the tenth inning, Perry and Schrader each drew walks, and after Jesse Clark popped out in foul territory, Kintner came to the plate and faked a bunt. Ashton Schwartz, courtesy running for Perry, stole third and came home when the catcher’s throw went into left field. The Bull Dogs (6-8) will host Shelbyville on Monday evening and will welcome area youth players as their guests for Youth Night.
