Dogs fall at East, but bounce back with runners-up finish at Conference Indiana

May 5, 2025 - After building a 2-0 lead at Columbus East, the Dogs stumbled down the stretch and fell 3-2 in the first meeting between the cross-town rivals since becoming a sanctioned sport by the IHSAA. The Dogs won the first two sets 25-21 and 26-24 and appeared to be in control of the match. The Olympians, however, battled back to win the final three sets 25-19, 25-15, and 15-9, dropping the Bull Dogs to 7-16 for the season. Leo Iorio led North with 16 kills, Kota Kondo topped the assists category with 32, JJ Salcedo had six blocks, and Hank Lin recorded 16 digs to pace the Bull Dogs. East won the JV match 2-0. The Dogs had a quick turnaround as they traveled to Terre Haute South Saturday morning for the inaugural Conference Indiana Championships. The Dogs knocked off Terre Haute North 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-20) and advanced to face Southport in the Conference Championship match. The Cardinals beat the Bull Dogs 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-17), giving North a runners-up finish in their first year as a sanctioned program. Bull Dog statistical leaders at the Conference Indiana tournament included Aces: Iorio 6, K. Kondo/Y. Kondo 4 Kills: Iorio 25, Y. Kondo 9 Assists: K. Kondo 29, Ramu Alagappan 10 Blocks: Salcedo/Noah Dornfeld 5 Digs: Y. Kondo 30, K. Kondo 14. The Bull Dogs (8-17) will travel to Bloomington South on Tuesday, May 6.
