May 12, 2025 - Columbus North softball had a busy weekend with three games in 18 hours on Friday night and Saturday. The Dogs fell 10-5 to Terre Haute North on Friday night in a game that started over an hour late due to travel issues by the Patriots. They then fell to Class 3A top-ranked New Palestine 12-1 at Jennings County, before bouncing back with a 6-2 victory over Jennings County to close out the weekend. Bailee Scruggs had a tough start against the Patriots, lasting just 1-⅓ innings and giving up five runs on seven hits. Payton Morris came on in relief in the second inning and allowed five runs (only two earned) on four hits while striking out six in 5-⅔ innings. She also had three hits at the plate for the game. Scruggs was back in the circle Saturday morning against the Dragons, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits, while striking out three in four innings of work. Again, Morris came on in relief and tossed the final innings, allowing five runs on five hits while striking out four. The Dogs only mustered a pair of hits (one each from Morgan Jarvis and Summer Williams), compared to 14 for New Palestine. With her third start of the weekend, Scruggs allowed just one run on four hits and struck out five in 5-⅓ innings against the Panthers of Jennings County. Morris closed out the final ⅔ of an inning and allowed one run on no hits, while walking two and striking out one. Scruggs had three hits and Avery Sheehan added two in the victory. The Dogs (8-9, 2-1) will continue their busy and challenging schedule as they travel to Brownstown Central this evening (May 12). The varsity/JV doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5:30 this evening. Photo: Bull Dogs softball finished the weekend 1-2 against TH North, New Palestine, and Jennings County.
