Dogs overcome windy conditions to open golf season

April 3, 2023 - The Columbus North boys golf team battled chilly and windy conditions in their season-opening tournaments this weekend. Head coach Doug Bieker split his squad, with the varsity competing in the 18-team Edinburgh Golf Invitational at Timbergate, and the JV heading to Shadowwood Golf Course in Seymour to compete in the eleven-team Seymour Invitational. Bull Dogs William Davis (75) and Tyler Wilks (78) took the top two places in Edinburgh, leading Columbus North to the team title. The Bull Dogs (323) finished 15 strokes ahead of second-place Shelbyville. Columbus East (348) finished third. Also competing for North at Timbergate were Joseph Perkins (83), John Merritt (87), and Jack Schiavello (91). The JV team carded 385 to finish seventh in Seymour among a field that contained both varsity and JV teams. Guerin Catholic (315) took the team title with Madison (347) finishing runners-up. Individually, the Dogs were led by Luke Friend who fired a score of 90. Alex Clark (95), Carter Battin (96), Brennan Kushman (104), and Parker Brown (119) rounded out the Columbus North lineup. North will compete on Saturday, April 8 in the Floyd Central Invitational, beginning at 2:00 pm.
