April 4, 2023 - Mike Bodart made his head coaching debut with the Bull Dogs baseball team at Roncalli on Monday evening, and despite out-hitting the Royals 4-2, North fell to 0-1 with a 6-3 loss. Luke Harmon started on the mound for the Dogs and got tagged for six runs (three of them earned) on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. Harmon issued a pair of walks and collected two strikeout before being replaced by Ryan Rayburn. Rayburn gave up no hits and struck out four in two-and-one-third innings of relief work. Connor Hensley finished the remainder of the game for North, giving up no hits and striking out three batters. While the three North pitchers held Roncalli to only two hits, the Dogs could only muster four hits of their own and were held scoreless through five innings. In the top of the sixth, Hensley singled to start the inning and eventually worked his way around to score on a passed ball. The Dogs put two more runs on the board in the seventh thanks to a pair of walks to Trenton McCain and Ely Lucas, and a two-run double by Tyler Blythe. However, the rally ended with a pair of strikeouts with runners at the corners. Hensley had a pair of hits for North, and Blythe collected two RBI. The Bull Dogs will travel to East Central on Tuesday evening as the JV and varsity teams will each face the Trojans with 6:00 start times.
