Softball game with top-ranked Roncalli ends as a tie

April 5, 2023 - The Bull Dog softball team went toe-to-toe with the state’s (and nation’s) top-ranked team, Roncalli, before the game was called due to darkness with a 3-3 tie. The Dogs built a 3-0 lead midway through the fifth inning before the Royals battled back to tie the game 3-3 after six innings. After two more scoreless innings, the game was called due to darkness after eight innings, resulting in a 3-3 draw. Maddi Rutan pitched all eight innings, giving up eight hits and two earned runs while striking out eleven batters. Kelsey Lovelace had a big night at the plate, recording three of the Bull Dogs’ six hits, including a pair of doubles and two RBI. The Bull Dogs continue to face quality opponents as they will travel to Shelbyville on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 pm.
