Cardinals edge Bull Dogs in extra innings

May 16, 2025 - In a game that had been rescheduled from April 29, the Southport Cardinals slipped past Columbus North 3-2 in eight innings on Thursday evening at the Southside diamonds. Javier Uscanga tossed the first five innings for the Bull Dogs, allowing one run on just four hits while walking two and striking out three. Franko Ortega gave up two runs on one hit in his two innings of work. Ortega struck out two and walked two before giving the ball to Brock Kintner for the final inning. Kintner gave up just one hit and struck out one in his inning of work. The Bull Dogs continue to search for the big hit with runners on base. North stranded eleven runners in eight innings, a number of which were in scoring position. Freshman Ike Genth was 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Dogs at the plate. Jack Whaley added two hits, and Kintner had a double in the Bull Dogs’ loss. The JV game, scheduled to be held at Columbus East on Thursday evening, was canceled after the Olympians were unable to find umpires for the game.
