Bull Dogs finish fifth at North Central Tennis Invitational

May 16, 2025 - Columbus North girls tennis finished 1-2 against three top-twenty ranked opponents at the North Central Invitational on Saturday to earn a fifth place finish in the event. The Dogs beat Homestead 3-2 before falling 4-1 to both Guerin Catholic and Ft. Wayne Carroll. Aya Saad won all three of her matches at number one singles to help the Dogs at the event. Individual match results (in order of finish) included Versus Homestead 3S: Molly Richards L 1-6, 2-6 2D: Grace Conner/Lizzie Bodart L 7-6 (3), Retire 1S: Saad W 6-1, 6-2 2S: Lucy Bergman L2-6, 7-5, 9-11 1D: Annabelle Sun/Nino Akhalaya W 6-3, 7-6(6) Versus Guerin Catholic 1S: Saad W 6-2, 6-2 2D: Conner/Bodart L 0-6, 4-6 1D: Sun/Akhalaya L 3-6, 0-6 3S: Ayane Umemura L 1-6, 6-3, 6-10 2S: Bergman L 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-10 Versus FW Carroll 3S: Umemura L 0-6, 0-6 1D: Sun/Akhalaya 6-7(3), 0-6 2D: Conner/Bodart L 0-6, 2-6 2S: Bergman L 4-6, 1-2, Retire 1S: Saad W 6-3, 6-2 North will travel to Bloomington South on Monday (May 19) to take on Terre Haute South. They were originally scheduled to play at Carmel on Monday, but were forced to cancel that matchup to make up a Conference Indiana match before sectionals begin on Wednesday, May 21.
