Tennis falls to Terre Haute South in battle of undefeated conference teams

May 20, 2025 - In a match that had been rescheduled twice earlier in the season, Terre Haute North and Columbus North tennis finally met on the courts at Bloomington South to decide the Conference Indiana champion. Both teams entered the match a perfect 4-0 in conference play, and the Braves earned a 4-1 victory and the outright conference title. Lucy Bergman got the match started in the right direction for the Bull Dogs with a 6-0, 6-4 victory at two singles. The rest of the match belonged to the Braves. Ayane Umemura lost 1-6, 1-6 at three singles, followed by a 4-6, 1-6 loss at the two doubles team of Grace Conner and Lizzie Bodart. The Braves secured the team victory when Annabelle Sun and Nino Akhalaya lost their one doubles match 2-6, 4-6, putting Terre Haute South up 3-1. The most competitive match of the night was at one singles where Aya Saad won the first set 6-3 before dropping the final two 3-6, and 4-10. The Bull Dogs will begin the defense of their sectional title Wednesday afternoon at home against Hauser. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm.
