April 8, 2023 - The Bull Dogs have had a busy week to open the 2023 baseball season. North has played six games in six days, concluded by a home doubleheader against Jeffersonville. The Dogs and Red Devils split the afternoon pair of games, with the Bull Dogs taking game one 7-2 and the Red Devils winning the late game 4-2. Zach McLean got the start on the mound in game one and lasted five innings. McLean gave up one unearned run and six hits while striking out six batters. Jayce Emmitt came on in relief and pitched the final two innings, giving up one earned run on two hits. Tyler Blythe and Dillon James each had a pair of hits and an RBI at the plate as the Dogs put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth inning. In game two, Joey Fry started and threw four innings, giving up just two hits and one unearned run while striking out four. Fry was relieved by Lane Schrader for an inning before Dillon James pitched the last two innings. Schrader walked two batters, but gave up no hits and no runs. James allowed a pair of hits and issued five walks which led to three earned runs for the Red Devils. The Dogs continued their early-season struggles at the plate, as they were only able to muster three singles for the game, one each by Blythe, James, and Luke Harmon. Nevertheless, North was able to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the score at 2-2 before the Red Devils answered with two runs of their own in the top half of the seventh inning to secure the 4-2 victory. Columbus North (3-3) will get just one day to rest before they host third-ranked Center Grove on Monday at 5:00 pm. The JV White team will get its first game action of the season as they will match up with Center Grove’s JV White squad at Southside beginning at 6:00 Monday evening.
