Girls tennis earns 26th regional title in sweep of Jennings County

May 29, 2025 - Columbus North beat Jennings County 5-0 on Wednesday evening, earning their ninth consecutive regional title. Their 26 regional titles ranks fourth all-time in IHSAA history behind Munster (34), Homestead (28), and Terre Haute South (27). The Dogs had little trouble with the Panthers in the regional finals, as Annabelle Sun and Nino Akhalaya put North on the board first with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number one doubles. Aya Saad’s 6-0, 6-2 one singles victory put the Dogs up 2-0, before Lucy Bergman secured the team title with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number two singles. Ayane Umemura won her three singles match 6-2, 6-2, and Grace Conner and Lizzie Bodart completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at two doubles. Next up for the Bull Dogs (16-6) will be a trip to Center Grove to face the Trojans in the semi-state championships on May 31 at noon.
