April 12, 2023 - Last season, Columbus North edged Floyd Central 3-2, winning all three singles matches but dropping both doubles. Since Floyd Central lost only one player from last year’s squad due to graduation, head girls tennis coach Kendal Hammel expected a very competitive match on Tuesday afternoon as the Bull Dogs hosted the Highlanders at Columbus North. The Dogs answered Coach Hammel’s concerns with a 5-0 sweep of Floyd Central to improve their season record to 4-0. Aya Saad put the Dogs on the board first with a 6-1 6-0 victory at two-singles, followed by a 6-0, 6-1 victory by Kathryn Wilson at one-singles. Lucy Bergman clinched the team victory for North with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at three-singles. Columbus North one-doubles team of Siri Poludasu and Annabelle Sun won 7-6, 6-1, setting up the most competitive match of the evening at two-doubles. After dropping the first set 4-6, Grace Conner and Nino Akhalaya battled back to take set two 6-1, and then closed out the match with a 10-7 decision in the third set. The Bull Dogs will travel to Lawrenceburg on Friday afternoon. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.
