April 15, 2023 - Columbus North and Silver Creek split a pair of games in a Saturday doubleheader at the Southside Elementary diamonds. Silver Creek took the first game 8-0, with the Bull Dogs bouncing back to grab game two 6-3. In the opening game, the Dogs could only muster two hits, one by Zach McLean and one by Luke Harmon. North didn’t help themselve much in the field, as five errors led to four unearned runs for the Dragons. McLean gave up only two hits, but seven runs (only three of which were earned) in his three-and-one-third innings pitched. Ryan Rayburn pitched the final three-and-two-thirds innings, giving up four hits and one earned run. The two pitchers combined for five strikeouts and five walks issued. In game two, the Bull Dogs were finally able to wake up their bats, pounding out nine hits. Dillon James had a pair of hits, including a triple. Harmon added two hits in the second game as well. Joey Fry got the start on the mound and threw five innings. He gave up five hits and just one run while striking out three Dragons. Blake Osbourne came on in relief in the sixth inning, giving up one hit and two unearned runs, while picking up four strikeouts. The JV team hosted Carmel on Saturday, and held a lead into the top of the sixth inning, when the Greyhounds blew open a tight game. Carmel held on to win 15-8, handing the JV team (4-1) their first loss of the season. The Bull Dogs will bring their 4-5 season record back to the diamond when they host Franklin Central on Tuesday, April 18. The JV and varsity games will each start at 5:30 pm at the Southside Elementary diamonds. The JV team will also play Monday, April 15 at Bedford North Lawrence, beginning at 5:30 pm.
