April 15, 2023 - The Columbus North girls tennis team improved to 6-0 for the season after a pair of road victories at Lawrenceburg on Friday (April 14) and at Jeffersonville on Saturday (April 15). The final match (number three singles) of Friday’s match at Lawrenceburg was tied 10-10 in the third set, when darkness and rain cut the match short. However, the Dogs had already won the first four matches to claim the team victory 4-0. Kathryn Wilson continued her early-season dominance with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at one singles. Aya Saad won her two singles match 6-0, 6-1. Annabelle Sun and Lizzie Bodart teamed up for a 6-1, 6-2 victory at two doubles, and Grace Conner and Nino Akhalaya captured the one doubles match 6-3, 3-6, 11-9. It was Lison Cloteaux’s three singles match that was cut short as she won the first set 6-4, and dropped the second set 6-7 to set up a third set tiebreaker. Rain and darkness prevented the conclusion of the match. On Saturday, the Dogs traveled to Jeffersonville and came home with a 4-1 victory. Wilson and Saad each dominated their one- and two-singles matches, winning 6-1, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-0, respectively. Sun and Cloteaux cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at one doubles, and Lucy Bergman tallied a 6-4, 6-0 victory at three singles. The Red Devils’ only victory came at two doubles as Conner and Akhalaya dropped a 1-6, 7-6, 7-10 decision. The Bull Dogs will travel to Bloomington North for a Conference Indiana matchup on Monday afternoon (April 17), beginning at 6:00 pm.
