Softball team sweeps Saturday doubleheader in Terre Haute

April 15, 2023 - Bull Dog softball improved to 6-0-1 with a sweep of Terre Haute South and Castle in a Saturday doubleheader in Terre Haute South. In game one, the Dogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an innings, but the Braves fought back to tie the game 4-4 after two and one-half innings. The Dogs then answered with two runs in the bottom of the third and another in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead, and eventually an 8-5 victory. Payton Morris started in the circle for North and gave up three unearned runs in one and two-thirds innings of work. Bailey Scruggs came on in relief, throwing five and one-third innings with two runs (one earned), striking out three and walking four hitters. Kelsey Lovelace and Maddi Rutan each had three hits against the Braves. One of Rutan’s hits was her third home run in as many games as she tallied three RBI.. In game two, Rutan took the circle and dominated from start to finish. She threw a complete-game one-hitter and struck out fifteen batters while not walking a single hitter. Bailey King had a pair of hits in game two and knocked in four runs. Next up for Columbus North is a trip across town to square off with Columbus East on Monday (April 17). First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
