April 19, 2023 - After three and a half innings, Bloomington North held a 3-0 lead over Columbus North at the Southside Elementary softball diamonds and the Cougars were smelling an upset. The Bull Dogs answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and then exploded for nine more in the bottom of the sixth inning to squash all Cougar hopes and take a 13-3 Conference Indiana victory. The nine-run sixth inning was highlighted by freshman Morgan Jarvis’ first career grand slam over the right field fence. It was Jarvis’ only hit of the night, but it was a big one for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 8-0-1 for the season. Kelsay Lovelace had three hits for the Dogs, while Kirsten Danford and Bailey King each added two in the victory. Payton Morris got the pitching start for Columbus North, lasting five innings and giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out eight. Maddi Rutan then pitched the top of the sixth inning, giving up one hit and striking out two. The Bull Dogs will travel to Southport on Thursday (April 20) for another Conference Indiana contest beginning at 6:00 pm.
