Volleyball team knocks off defending State champion on the road

August 27, 2025 - After a 4-2 start to the season, Columbus North traveled to defending 1A State champion Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday evening and came home with a 3-1 victory. After a shaky start to the match (a 15-25 loss in the first set), the Bull Dogs settled down and swept the final three sets 27-25, 25-22, 25-22 for the 3-1 road victory. Karen Dutro led the Dogs with 17 kills, five blocks, and a pair of service aces. Sydney Ousley and Tania Maldonado each had ten kills, and Elaina Penrod added six kills and two blocks. Morgan Osborn topped the Bull Dogs with 31 digs, while Lexi Denny recorded 32 assists, 20 digs, three blocks, and two aces. The two teams split the early matches, with the Bull Dogs winning the JV match 2-0 and Trinity Lutheran taking the C-team match by the same score. North will travel to Roncalli High School, the defending 3A State champions on Thursday evening. JV and C-team matches are scheduled to begin at 6:00 with varsity to follow the JV.
