April 26, 2023 - After knocking off second-ranked Center Grove at their own tournament on Saturday, April 22, the Columbus North Softball team stumbled in game two, dropping their first game of the season to fifth-ranked Bedford North Lawrence. As scheduling luck would have it, the Bull Dogs got an opportunity to avenge that loss when they faced the Stars at home on Tuesday, April 25. The Dogs got their revenge with a 4-3 victory, improving their record to 11-1-1. Maddi Rutan, who also started the first game against BNL last weekend but only lasted four innings due to throwing over 120 pitches in the victory over Center Grove, again got the start in the rematch. Rutan threw a complete-game three-hitter, allowing three runs while striking out 14. Kelsey Lovelace had three hits, including a double, to lead the offensive attack. Payton Morris smacked a homerun, and Josie Lemmons added a double for North. The Dogs will be back on the diamond Wednesday evening when they face Floyd Central. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
