April 27, 2023 - The Columbus North softball team had faced a top-five ranked opponent the previous three games heading into its matchup with twelfth-ranked Floyd Central at the Columbus North diamonds at Southside Elementary on Wednesday afternoon. The Dogs improved to 12-1-1 for the season after taking down the Highlanders 7-2. The Bull Dogs are now ranked #1 in Indiana by MaxPreps for the first time in program history. Maddi Rutan continued her dominance, throwing another complete game. She gave up two earned runs on nine hits while striking out nine and walking none. The Dogs pounded out eleven hits, including three by Kelsey Lovelace and two each by Rutan, Kirsten Danford, Bailey King, and Kaylee Cowan. One of Cowan’s hits was a solo homerun. The Dogs were up 7-0 before giving up a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning, but it was too little, too late for Floyd Central. North will travel to Perry Meridian this afternoon (April 27). First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm. Photo: Kaylee Cowan blasted a solo homerun in the Bull Dogs’ 7-2 victory over Floyd Central on Wednesday. The victory improved their season record to 12-1-1 and earned them their first number-one ranking in program history by MaxPreps.
